The Developmental Workshops and Laboratories (VDL) form the base of manufacturing and research capacity of the Technical University in Zvolen mainly in the areas of forest-wood-ecology-environment. The VLD belong to the organisational parts of the TUZVO in Zvolen. The main missions of the VLD are pedagogical, science and research, business and other activities.
The specialised part of the VDL, as a pilot workplace, offers hands-on training, encouraging students’ creativity, allows the students to gain the imagination, manual skills in design, skills in mechanical and chemical wood processing, knowledge about wood-based materials, metals, and plastic materials. All of these services are offered to the students of the TUZVO. Each creative student has the opportunity to gain, understand and perform their tasks throughout the experiential education.
Some master and dissertation theses are elaborated with the help of the Laser Workplace and the 5-axe CNC machine. The process of component production is a part of the experimental education not for students, who are supervised by the professional machine operators.
The unique complex of the three-dimensional (3D) virtual, displaying and printing technologies is installed in the Hall of the scientific-experimental workplaces at the VDL. The students can be familiarised with the unique 3D technologies and perceive and work with its products.
The VDL provide complex conditions for material outputs of research (test models, specimens and processes) within the required time, quantity and quality of master and dissertation theses.
Moreover, the VDL provide hand-on training for secondary school students based on the contract with the particular secondary school.
The VDL, as an organisational part of the TUZVO, encourage creative and free time students groups such as Woodenworld and individuals as long as they are in accordance with the occupational health and safety (OHS), fire protection and student status.
The permanent function of the VDL is preserved while supporting student creativity, originality, enthusiasm, and skilfulness.
