Supporting Scientific and Experimental Research Across TUZVO Faculties

The Development Workshops and Laboratories of TUZVO (VDL) provide researchers and scientific teams with a comprehensive infrastructure for conducting applied, experimental, and developmental research in the fields of wood processing, mechanical engineering, design, and related technical disciplines.

VDL enable the validation of research results under semi-operational conditions, bridging the gap between laboratory-level research (TRL 3–4) and technology readiness suitable for commercialization (TRL 7–8).

Research and Technological Infrastructure

VDL are equipped with modern production and measuring technologies that allow for:

  • experimental verification of technological parameters in wood machining and processing,
  • testing of tools, materials, and surface treatments,
  • studying interactions between tools, materials, and processing conditions,
  • real-time monitoring and data collection using sensor systems,
  • testing of components and prototypes for industrial applications.

The facilities can be flexibly adapted to various experimental configurations and provide an environment for interdisciplinary research – from wood science and materials engineering to mechatronics, automation, and digital technologies.

Support for Research Projects and Publications

VDL serve as a supporting infrastructure for investigators and project teams working on research funded by APVV, VEGA, KEGA, Interreg, Horizon Europe, and other programs. They provide:

  • technical and material facilities for experimental research,
  • assistance with the preparation of experimental setups,
  • sample processing and prototype fabrication for testing purposes,
  • opportunities for long-term measurements and data acquisition.

The results of research conducted within the VDL can be directly used as outputs for scientific publications, dissertations, habilitation theses, and project deliverables.
