Semi-Operational Activities – From Development to Realization

The Development Workshops and Laboratories of TUZVO (VDL) operate in a semi-operational mode, which means that, alongside their core activities in research, development, and innovation, they also carry out production and service operations for the university and external industry partners.

Equipped with modern technological facilities and supported by a skilled professional team, VDL provide comprehensive services – from design to final implementation.

Scope of Production Activities

The production activities of VDL cover a wide range of projects – from prototype manufacturing of wooden and metal components, through design elements and functional models, to complete interiors and small-scale construction projects.

VDL specialize particularly in:

• realization of interiors and interior elements for schools, public institutions, and administrative buildings,
• manufacturing of furniture and equipment for offices, laboratories, classrooms, and coworking spaces,
• development and production of prototypes made of wood, metal, and composite materials,
• fabrication of experimental and educational equipment for universities, research centers, and industrial companies.

Up to 90% of VDL’s production program focuses on interior solutions for offices, laboratories, classrooms, and modern workspaces – combining functionality, ergonomics, and aesthetic design.

Comprehensive Product Engineering

VDL offer custom product development and implementation within their own technological capacities and the expertise of the university’s academic environment.

Projects are carried out in cooperation with experts from multiple TUZVO faculties, enabling a holistic approach – from conceptual design to product implementation.

The process of comprehensive product engineering includes:

1. Concept design and idea development,
2. Construction and technological preparation for production,
3. Prototype manufacturing and testing,
4. Intellectual property protection (patent, design, utility model),
5. Production and testing of pilot series,
6. Technology transfer and production implementation at the client’s site.

Through this integrated approach, VDL provide end-to-end services – from an idea to the final product, including research, development, innovation, and production support.
